Government challenged to uphold rights for suspects

Government has been challenged to uphold rights of all suspects when arrested.
Speaking during a Human Rights workshop, Senior Investigations Officer, Mwiba Mwenda, says that suspects have the right to bail and bond.
Mr. Mwenda says that the rights should not be subjected to appeal.
He observed that most of the times, the rights of suspects are not respected.
Mr. Mwenda pointed out that according to article 28 of the Zambian constitution, anyone whose rights have not been respected has the right to bring the culprits before the court.
Mr. Mwenda says that this is why it is incumbent for the state to ensure that rights of all individuals are upheld.
The Human Rights Commission is conducting a consultative meeting on implementation of bail and bond reforms.
