Government denies abandoning plans to put up solar plant

Government has dispelled fears that plans to put up a solar power generating plant in Eastern Province have been abandoned.

Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo, says contrary to the fears, government is still fully committed to ensuring that the plant is put up.

Mr. Kasolo says that the South African Company, which plans to invest in the project has invited government to go and see a similar project it has put up in that country.

He explained that this is expected to happen in the next two weeks.

Mr. Kasolo explained that government has been trying to finalize the Power Purchase Agreement with ZESCO.

He explained that after that, the company is expected to come to Chipata and start mapping up the land were the plant will be built.

Senior Chief Nzamane gave out land where the plant will be put up.
