Government has identified a new person to take over as Chipata Municipal Council town clerk.

The Ministry of Local Government and Housing says that it has already identified a replacement for Ekan Chingangu who resigned as Chipata Town Clerk last week.

Provincial Local Government Officer, Macloud Nyirenda says that his office has written to the Local Government Service Commission to appoint the person who has been identified.

Mr. Nyirenda says that government does not want to create a vacuum on the position because they do not want to paralyse any operations at the council.

Mr. Changangu resigned from his position last week barely a day after he was arrested by ACC for cheating. He is expected to stop working on January 31st.

Meanwhile government is to institute investigations into various allegations levelled against management at Chipata Municipal Council.

These include mismanagement of funds, failure by management to come up with a strategic work plan and illegal allocation of plots.

Mr. Nyirenda told Breeze News this morning that all measures have been put in place to start the investigations.

Mr. Nyirenda says that allegations over mismanagement of funds will be handled by ACC, the Anti-Corruption Commission while other allegations will be handled by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.
