Government has launched its 54 million Kwacha National Registration exercise in Eastern Province.

The 54 million Kwacha phase two of the mobile National Registration Exercise has been launched in Chipata today.
Speaking during the launch, Home Affairs Deputy Minister, Jerry Chanda says that 80 thousand people have been targeted from Eastern Province out of the 500,000 people targeted countrywide.
Mr. Chanda urged people spearheading the exercise to work in a professional way and avoid issuing the NRC’s to foreigners as they would face prosecution.
He warned political parties and civil society organizations not to politicize the exercise as it is government’s way of fulfilling its campaign promises to the people of Zambia.
The deputy minister indicated that the registration exercise will assist every Zambian, who is above the age of fifteen exercise their right to vote.
And Provincial Minister, Malozo Sichone urged traditional leaders and the church to assist government in sensitizing the people on the importance of obtaining NRC’s.
Mr. Sichone says that the mobile registration exercise will curb long distances being covered by people to obtain NRC’s in various areas.
And Chipata District Commissioner, Kalunga Zulu urged young people to take advantage of the exercise and obtain NRCs, which is the only way they can be identified.
Phase two of the exercise will cover Eastern, Lusaka, Southern and Western Provinces.
