Government in 125 thousand Kwacha debt over dam works.

About 125 thousand Kwacha is remaining to pay 108 casual workers who were engaged to construct Mukochi Dam in Luangeni Constituency in Chipata.

Provincial Water Affairs Officer, Charles Changa said this when Eastern Province Minister, Makebi Zulu toured the dam this morning.

Mr. Changa says the casual workers will only be paid when the department receives funding from government.

And Mr. Changa says 2.7 million Kwacha has been spent on the dam whose construction works started in 2014 and was completed in January this year.

Mr Changa says the 723 thousand meter cubic of water dam is benefiting 30 villages in the area.

He however, complained that villagers had vandalised some valves on the Pump for the dam but the department has now secured the pump.

And Nelis Gondwe from Nkhanila Village who is one of the beneficiaries thanked government for constructing a dam in the area because it is where animals drink from and assists them in gardening.

And Provincial Minister, Makebi Zulu says the dam is cardinal to the local people as it assists them in irrigation and fish farming.
