Government intends to employ engineers specialized in the construction of dams across the country.
Energy and Water Development Permanent Secretary George Zulu says his ministry has made a request to the treasury to facilitate funds to enable the project take off.
Mr Zulu was speaking in Lundazi in an interview shortly after carrying out physical inspection of Chamboli Dam.
He says some dams, which were recently constructed had collapsed or were washed away due to lack of qualified personnel in the ministry to carry out proper works during the construction process.
He also says some contractors, who were engaged in the construction of dams in the country were unreliable.
Mr Zulu alleged that some contractors were busy pocketing colossal sums of money once awarded the contracts by the Government.
He was however, impressed with the works carried out at Chamboli dam in Lundazi District, which gobbled 455, 000 Kwacha.
And the energy permanent secretary has instructed the provincial water Engineers office to prepare a comprehensive report on the alleged misapplications of 1.4 million Kwacha rebased on Mnduwi dam in Chipata district.
