Government has engaged Chipata Municipal Council to cancel some plots allocated in front of ZRA, Zambia Revenue Authority offices near Saturday market.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo told a media briefing yesterday that he has written to the local authority to cancel some of the plots allocated at the ZRA area.
Mr. Kasolo says a similar situation will be taken on plots that have been allocated at St. Anne’s Cemetery because it is not Zambian to build houses at a graveyard.
Mr. Kasolo says the planning of Chipata Town leaves a lot to be desired because of a lot of illegal allocation of plots.
He says the only way that Chipata can have a proper plan is through decentralisation policy, when every document will be acquired from Chipata.
Mr. Kasolo says the current process of getting a proper plan from Lusaka is so complicated that people give up and end up having illegal structures.
