Four point four million Kwacha has been paid out to all contractors working on the four district hospitals in Eastern Province.
Eastern Province Medical Officer, Dr Abel Kabalo confirmed the development to Breeze News.
Mr. Kabalo says that he is happy with the progress so far, stating that Lundazi District hospital, whose works began in 2012 has reached phase three.
He added that Chipata and Nyimba district hospitals are both at roofing level under phase one, while excavation works for Vubwi District hospital have begun.
Meanwhile, 90 per cent of materials needed for the construction of 37 prefabricated health posts in Eastern Province have arrived.
Dr. Kabalo explained that 14 slabs have already been made in preparation for the actual works.
He says that 20 engineers from India have arrived in the country and are undergoing orientation in Lusaka before the actual works begin.
Dr. Kabalo says that boreholes have already been drilled and incinerators put up where the health posts will be.
