Government has revealed plans to expand the Chipata Airport.

Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo says that the runway will have to be extended to 3 kilometres length and 45 meters wide.

Mr. Kasolo says that this is in order to accommodate bigger aircraft.

He further says that government intends to construct a modern terminal building, modern control tower and 10 staff houses.

And Mr. Kasolo says that plans are underway to modernize and expand the Airstrip in Petauke district to regional standard with a runway of 2 kilometres.

Meanwhile Mr. Kasolo reiterated that government is working on wooing an appropriate investor to turn the DK Stadium in Chipata into a modern facility.

The stadium will have other facilities like a shopping mall, cinemas, restaurants and bars.

This will be done under the PPP, Private Public Partnership arrangements between the investor and Government.
