Government projects in Sinda district running behind schedule

Almost all government projects that are being done in Sinda district may not be completed according to schedule.
A check by a Breeze FM Budget Tracking team yesterday, found that only one contractor, Conquest Limited, engaged to construct the police station has showed seriousness despite being the last one to move on site in February this year.
The contractor has been hired to build a police station block, 10 low cost houses and two medium cost houses at a cost of 13.1 million Kwacha.
So far, seven low cost houses have been roofed while construction works for the two medium cost houses are at ring beam level.
The project is to run for 18 months.
Meanwhile, the other contractors, Emmaloy Investment Limited and Trans-atlantic Ventures Limited, who were engaged to construct 20 low cost government houses and 10 medium cost houses respectively may not manage to work within their 11 months contract period due to the slow pace of the work.
District Works Supervisor Bennett Chulu has expressed worry, stating that the 7.8 and 7.7 million Kwacha government housing projects may not beat the 11 months period.
Mr Chulu says he has written the provincial office to seek advice on the appropriate actions to be taken.
