Some residents in Katete district have expressed concern with the slow pace at which works for urban roads are moving.
Speaking to Breeze News, the residents wondered when the works of upgrading urban roads to bituminous standard will be completed.
And Mphangwe Ward Councilor Vincent Mbewe also wondered why the Ministry of Local Government and Housing opted to extend the contract period despite the local authority recommending that the contract be terminated due to delayed works.
Mr. Mbewe stated that Nakangea Construction Company was contracted in 2013 for the initial 14 months project, but that the works have dragged on for more than 3 years.
He further revealed that the last extension ended on 30th April, 2016 but no single road has been completed.
Meanwhile Katete District Commissioner Joseph Makukula also expressed concern over the delayed works.
Mr. Makukula indicated that the failure by the contractor to complete the works on time was raising a lot of speculations among members of the public.
Efforts to get a comment from Nakangea Construction Company failed by news time.
