Government has only managed to release half of the money owed to workers at Chipata Municipal Council.
Provincial Local Government Officer, McCloud Nyirenda told Breeze News that government has released salaries for the month of November 2013 while December salaries are still outstanding.
Mr. Nyirenda says that the remaining money will be released later because government is still attending to other demands at the moment.
Last week, workers within the council disclosed to Breeze News that they have not been paid their November and December 2013 salaries.
And Mr. Nyirenda has appealed to all the local authorities in the province to ensure that their workers are paid the other 50 per-cent salary on time.
He says councils can manage to pay their workers on time and not to always be waiting for the government to assist.
Mr. Nyirenda indicated that previously management in councils used to manage to pay salaries from their revenue collection.
