Government has been given a seven days ultimatum to explain why it has not funded the electrification of a hammer mill for the blind in Chipata’s Walela area.
Zambia National Federation for the Blind Chairperson, Samson Njobvu says that the visually impaired will carry out a peaceful protest if government fails to explain.
Mr Njobvu told Breeze News this morning that the blind that are forced to beg on the streets are tired with insults coming from some members of the public.
He says that these insults can be avoided if the hammer mill starts working as the blind will have their own source of income.
And Mr Njobvu complained that the visually impaired have been denied an opportunity to benefit from the presidential initiative fund for marketeers.
He says that efforts by their members to access the money have failed as they are being told that it is a loan, which they cannot afford to pay back.
