Government to contain the deadly army worms damaging crop fields in Eastern Province.

Government is working out modalities to contain the army worms that have damaged crop fields in Petauke, Nyimba and Katete districts.
Provincial Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba says that the Ministry of Agriculture has procured chemicals to spray crop fields that have been affected.
Mr Mwamba has advised farmers who have not yet planted their seeds to wait until the situation is contained saying this will guard against damage to crops.
He observed that the planting season had been extended from December 15 to mid-January due to climate change and that delays in planting will not affect next year’s yield.
Mr Mwamba said this year’s farming season will go up to April next year according to the Meteorological department.
