Government has been urged to put up an official border post at Kambani entry point between Zambia and Malawi in Chieftainess Mkanda’s area.
Florence Phiri and Maloni Banda say that a lot of goods come in and leave the country through Kambani entry point.
They noted that the point is strategic especially for smugglers because it is located in a rural area where officers cannot detect them.
Meanwhile, Chieftainess Mkanda added that people engaged in criminal activities also use the border to evade both Malawian and Zambian authorities.
She explained that Kambani is a busier cross border trade point than authorities know.
And Chipata District Administrative Officer, Kapembwa Sikazwe, says that government will engage the Zambia Revenue Authority and other wings to survey the area for possibilities of putting up a border post in the area.
He said that it is good that the villagers in the area have come out to alert government on the activities happening in the area.
Mr. Sikazwe says government has been losing a lot of revenue through people who evade paying tax by using illegal entry points to bring in goods.
