Hundreds in Chipata celebrate Independence Day

Hundreds of people from all walks of life have today gathered at David Kaunda stadium in Chipata to celebrate Zambia’s 51st independence anniversary.
Top government officials, civil servants, representatives from non-governmental organizations, pupils and political parties are celebrating the event that is characterized by speeches and entertainment such as Drama, poems and sporting activities.
Speaking during the event, Sports Minister Vincent Mwale says the independence Zambia is celebrating should make people reflect on the tough times that Freedom Fighters went through during the struggle for freedom.
He says it is for this reason that Freedom fighters should be recognized and urged people to continue upholding the spirit of peace and unity.
Mr. Mwale says government recognizes the importance of having a peaceful country by promoting the One Zambia One Nation Motto.
He says that government is confident that Zambia can be transformed into a better country in the next fifty years with the help of other stakeholders.
Mr. Mwale says that government has announced a halt into exportation of jobs by allowing Zambians to be producing their own products.
He says that poultry business, quarry or the crushing of stones, block making and local transportation contracts will from now onwards be given to Zambians.
