Hunger has hit villagers of Chilimanyama ward in Petauke district, forcing them to live on pumpkin leaves and okra.
The villagers told Breeze News that they are unable to eat the staple food, Nshima because they do not have maize.
Affected villages include Nkhowe, Pwaila, Chiluzi, Chombe, Kaduku and Mzumwa.
They villagers have described the situation as unfortunate.
Meanwhile shortage of mealie meal has hit Petauke district.
Few of the retail outlets have the commodity in stock causing panic buying among the consumers.
