Hunger looms in Chief Madzimawe’s area

Some villagers in Chief Madzimawe’s area in Chipata could face serious hunger next year.
Chief Madzimawe told Breeze News that this is because of the poor rains that his area has received so far.
He says that his area only received first rains last week on Thursday, which has resulted in some crops withering especially for farmers who planted early.
The traditional leader however, says that a proper assessment of the hunger situation can only be conducted in February.
He says that he is optimistic that if the rains experienced in the last few days continue, some farmers might be able to recover and produce enough maize.
Chief Madzimawe says that the chiefdom has a 50/50 chance of having a good harvest although hunger should not be ruled out.
