Villagers in Kwenje ward in Chipata have asked ZAWA, the Zambia Wildlife Authority to quickly survey the area and control hyenas that are terrorizing people.
Kwenje Ward councillor, Peter Jere, says that villagers in the area are now living in fear, due to the hyenas that have so far been attacking and eating domestic animals.
He explained that Mkoma, Masala and Samuel, are the worst affected parts, where the hyenas have been eating cattle.
Mr. Jere says that women are no longer waking up very early to go and fetch water in fear of the wild animals.
And in a related development, ZAWA has been asked to send officers to Chief Mnukwa’s area in Chipata to stop some Malawians who are killing birds carelessly.
The villagers explained that the Malawians are using nets and catching birds in great numbers.
This has raised fears that some bird spices may go into extinction.
