Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Dr. Chileshe Mulenga has expressed concern with the increase in the number of illegal street vendors trading from private properties in Chipata.
Speaking to Breeze News, Dr. Mulenga says that the system of vendors trading in front of private properties has become a total mess for Chipata town and should not be condoned.
Dr. Mulenga says that it is the duty of the council to ensure that all illegal street vendors trading on private properties are removed.
He says that it is inconveniencing for the owners of the shops to do business, when they are other people trading outside their shops.
Two months ago, Chipata Municipal Council and the Zambia police removed illegal street vendors trading from the shopping mall but they returned barely after a week had passed.
The vendors have gone back into the corridors, displaying their various products which include, clothes, shoes, vegetables and fruits.
