A grade 11 pupil, Chibuye Besa from Anoya Boys Secondary School in Chipata is the first Junior Mayor for the district.
And Rosemary Banda a grade ten pupil from Hillside Secondary School is Chipata Deputy Mayor.
The two were declared winners after beating six other pupils in a debate competition organized by Chipata Municipal Council on Thursday this week.
Chibuye scored 75 marks while Rosemary scored 51 marks.
And Chipata Municipal Council Director of Housing and Social Services, Judith Maambo told Breeze News that the selection of the two pupils is aimed at engaging young people in issues of governance.
She says that the installation ceremony for the Junior Mayor and Deputy Junior Mayor will take place on a date to be announced.
