Kasenengwa MP says attempts to lift the immunity of former president Rupiah Banda will not work.

Kasenengwa Member of Parliament, Victoria Kalima says that efforts to lift the immunity of former president Rupiah Banda will not work.
Ms. Kalima says that the PF is fighting a losing battle as it does not have enough Members of Parliament to meet the required 2 thirds majority.
The parliamentarian said this during a live political hour program on Breeze FM.
She expressed confidence that Members of Parliament from MMD, the Movement for Multiparty Democracy and UPND, the United Party for National Development will not support the idea.
And Ms. Kalima challenged the PF government to first conclude corruption investigations against Justice Minister, who is also PF national secretary, Wynter Kabimba and his Defence counterpart, Geofrey Mwamba, before jumping to Mr. Banda’ s issues.
And Ms Kalima also took a swipe at the manner in which the PF government is implementing the Public Order Act.
She wondered why permits are being demanded before opposition leaders hold political meetings, when the PF was being allowed to hold meetings when they were in the opposition.

Mr. Kabimba is quoted as having indicated that government had no choice but to ask MPs to lift Mr. Banda’s immunity following the former head of state’s refusal to appear before ACC, Anti-Corruption Commission for investigations.
