Lack of funding is hampering progress of tarring the Chipata-Chadiza-Chanida-Katete roads.

Progress of tarring works on the Chipata-Chadiza road is being hampered by lack of funding from government.

According to a brief report from RDA, the Road Development Agency, government still has a backlog of about 97.3 million Kwacha.

The project, which also involves upgrading the road to Chanida border and Katete, has a contract sum of about 713 million Kwacha.

And about 282 million Kwacha has been certified on the project, which started on April 4, 2013 and will be completed in October next year.

Meanwhile residents in Chadiza have appealed to government to ensure that tarring works resume on the Chipata-Chadiza road.

Speaking to Breeze News, the residents noted that the project seems to have stalled because there is no activity taking place at the site.

Government contracted China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited to carry out the works on the roads, which are expected to bring a lot of benefits to Eastern Province.
