Tobacco farmers in Chipata have complained over lack of information on this year’s crop marketing season.
The farmers have told Breeze News that they do not know who will run this year’s crop marketing, despite reports that the markets might open this week.
Former Eastern Fodya Association of Zambia EFAZ vice Chairperson, Chishala Chilufya says that it is unfair to keep farmers in the dark over such important information.
And Mr. Chilufya has appealed to tobacco buying companies to ensure that they assist farmers make profit from growing tobacco.
He says that last marketing season, farmers like those from Zemba area made losses as they were unable to sell their crop due to certain unfavourable conditions in the marketing system.
Over 500 kilogrammes of tobacco transported to Lusaka by farmers from Eastern Province last marketing season went to waste as they could not sell the produce.
Lack of information on this year’s tobacco marketing season angers some farmers in Chipata.
