Land dispute ensues between Lundazi District Council and villagers

A land dispute has ensued between Lundazi District Council and villagers in Chief Mphamba’s area in Lundazi.
Headman Chinyumba Allan Mtonga and his vice Stanley Phiri have complained that Lundazi District Council has taken away land that was used for farming by the villagers.
The duo expressed fear that they might be displaced as the local authority had also grabbed land which has been earmarked for other development.
Mr. Mtonga and Mr. Phiri indicated that they are not against development but that the council should find them alternative land where they can settle and continue with farming activities.
But Lundazi District Council Secretary, Boyd Kaoma denied grabbing land from Chinyumba villagers.
Mr. Kaoma explained that the land they claim ownership was the one handed over to the council by the civil aviation.
He stated that the extension of the township boundary does not affect the villagers in question.
