Chipata City Council says plans are underway to rename one of the streets after late former Town Clerk Bernard Siwakwi because of the role he played to the attainment of city status.
Chipata Mayor Sinoya Mwale disclosed that the late town
clerk was supposed to be honoured when the town was being declared a city by President Edgar Lungu.
Mr Mwale says the late town clerk dedicated most of his time to ensuring that Chipata attains a city status.
He says that a proposal to rename Kawalala road, which is in the industrial area, after the former town clerk would be considered.
The campaign to have Chipata become a city was started by Mr
Siwakwi when he served as Town Clerk.
On Friday last week, President Lungu conferred Chipata with city status in accordance with statutory instrument number 13 of 2017.
