Late cotton buying price increase angers farmers in Katete district

Some cotton farmers in Katete district have expressed anger at the move by cotton companies to increase buying prices late.
Speaking to Breeze News, the farmers said that the price increase has come late when farmers have almost sold all their produce.
Amon Phiri wondered whether the buying companies will be able to pay farmers who already sold their cotton the difference in the buying price.
Yesterday Cotton Association of Zambia Board member Michael Banda told Breeze News that the prices have gone up from two kwacha ten ngwee to two kwacha fifty ngwee.
Meanwhile Mr. Phiri alleged that government has not done much to assist farmers growing different crops as they are usually exploited by companies.
He noted that government needs to quickly announce the floor price for maize as it will assist farmers make better decisions when selling.
