The Law Association of Zambia LAZ has been condemned over its decision to join proceedings of the presidential petition as friends of the court.
Special Education Association of Zambia Acting President, Exodus Chilewe says LAZ has no legal backing to make such a move.
Speaking to Breeze News, Mr. Chilewe says that according to article 112 (1), the judiciary shall be subject to the constitution and the law and not be subject to the control or direction of a person or an authority.
He further states that article 118 clause 2 E of the constitution, says that justice shall be administered without undue regard to procedural technicalities.
Mr. Chilewe says LAZ are not judges and are not ratified by parliament to provide legal advice to the courts as indicated in the letter, which they wrote to the Constitutional Court.
He says that the constitutional court should be allowed to operate independently as it handles the case where UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema is contesting the re-election of President Edgar Lungu.
