Livestock Farmers in Eastern Province shun vaccination of animals exercise.

The Veterinary Department in Eastern Province has expressed worry with the reluctance by livestock farmers to take their animals for vaccination.
Provincial Veterinary Officer, Arthur Mumbolomena says that most farmers do not respond to the vaccination of animals offered by the department.
Dr. Mumbolomena says that in December last year, the department had targeted to vaccinate 21, 500 calves but only managed to vaccinate 10,182, despite farmers being sensitized on the vaccination.
He says shunning vaccinations will have a negative impact on the animals because they become prone to diseases which can be transmitted to human beings if they consume the meat.
Dr. Mumbolomena has urged small scale farmers to ensure that they take their animals for vaccination to prevent their animals from dying.
