Low quality fertilizer is reducing crop production in the country.
National Principal Agricultural Research Officer, Sesele Sokotela says that the agricultural production in the country is low due to low quality fertilizer entering the country illegally.
He was speaking during a one day seminar with stakeholders in Chipata.
Mr. Sokotela says research has revealed that due to weak laws on importation of fertilizer, it has put the country in an awkward position because the Ministry of Agriculture cannot protect farmers against fake fertilizers.
He explained that most of the fertilizer found on the market does not work to the expectations of farmers.
Mr. Sokotela however, says the Ministry of Agriculture has embarked on three years project, to advocate for strong legal frame work which would curb the low quality of inputs on the Zambian market.
