Government says the major rehabilitation of the 357-kilometre stretch on the Great East Road is expected to start by June this year.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Dr Chileshe Mulenga says that government is expecting the two contractors to
carryout rehabilitation works after finishing the mobilization works on the 168.70 million Euro contract.
Dr. Mulenga explained that the two contractors, who were engaged to work on the rehabilitation works on the Great East Road, have just completed with the
mobilization works.
The permanent secretary also says the upgrading of Chipata-Vubwi road into bituminous standard by China Jiangxi International Corporation had delayed due to late release of finances.
He also explained that the contractor reported to the site before a consultant was hired.
And Dr. Mulenga says that Sable Construction Company is about to complete the tarring works on Chipata-Mfuwe and Chipata-Lundazi roads.
Meanwhile Dr. Mulenga has revealed that government is
working towards expanding the Chipata Airport in order to meet the international standards.
