Malawian arrested for killing his fellow Malawian in Chipata

Police in Chipata are investigating a murder case in which a Malawian was killed by a fellow Malawian residing in Chief Chanje’s area over the weekend.

Eastern Province Deputy Police Commissioner, Diamond Likashi told Breeze News that Ezekiel Phiri was killed by Peter Banda after suspecting him to be having an affair with his wife.

Mr. Likashi says police received a report from Headman Kamamphina, Tumbikani Banda of Chief Chanje’s area who reported that two Malawians residing in the area were quarrelling and one was badly pushed and died on the spot.

He said police visited the scene and picked up the body which is currently in the Chipata Central Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem and burial.

Mr. Likashi says the deceased’s body had no physical injuries and police have instituted investigations into the matter.

He says Banda is currently in police custody and will appear in court soon.
