Manje Ward Councillor Edward Mzyeche from PF, the Patriotic Front Party is the new Chadiza District Council Vice Chairperson.
Mr. Mzyeche was declared winner by Chadiza Council Secretary Kennedy Kazanda at exactly 10:25 hours yesterday.
Mr Mzyeche went unopposed after nomination papers for three other contenders were invalidated for filling in late.
Mr Kazanda said filling in of nomination papers was communicated to all the councillors that it would take place from 08 to 09 hours.
He said that Chadiza Central ward Councillor Richard Mbewe for PF filed in at 09:06 hours, Peter Sakala for PF of Khumba Ward filled in at 09:15 hours while Chanjowe ward Councillor Acklas Mbewe’s nomination was received at 09:45 hours.
MMD Naviluli Ward Councillor Misheck Mbewe filed in his nomination papers at 08:35 hours but there was no one to second his candidature, which resulted in his nomination papers being declared invalid.
The elections were conducted yesterday during the 1st Ordinary Council Meeting held in the Council Chamber
