Market found for 220,000 kgs of stuck tobacco

Two hundred and twenty thousand kilogrammes of tobacco stuck in Eastern Province due to lack of market might be bought.

Eastern Independent Tobacco Growers Association Chairperson, James Nyirenda has confirmed.

Mr. Nyirenda says that a company called Sunbridge has offered to buy the tobacco, which TBZ, Tobacco Board of Zambia could not buy.

And a letter availed to Breeze News confirmed that Sunbridge has written to TBZ asking to be given permission to buy the 220,000 kilogrammes of tobacco.

Mr. Nyirenda appealed to the office of the provincial permanent secretary to facilitate quick process of allowing the company to buy the crop.

Meanwhile Mr. Nyirenda has appealed to government to help speed up payments to farmers who sold tobacco to TBZ.

He says that the farmers need to be paid so that they can use the money to prepare for the 2016/2017 farming season.

Early this TBZ Chief Executive Officer, Samson Muyembe indicated that the board was still scouting for money to pay the farmers.
