Ministry of Health dismisses reports of outbreak of typhoid in Chipata district.

The Ministry of Health in Eastern Province has dispelled rumours that there is an outbreak of Typhoid in Chipata district.

Acting Provincial Medical Officer, Jairos Mulambya told ZANIS in Chipata that contrary to the rumours, none of the districts in the province has recorded an outbreak of Typhoid.

Dr. Mulambya says that if there had been an outbreak, the districts could have reported the matter to the Provincial Health Office

He states that although the province had recorded an outbreak of Typhoid early last year, his ministry had managed to contend the situation.

Meanwhile, sources within the Ministry of Health say that there is an outbreak of Typhoid and that a number of cases have been recorded in Chipata.

The sources stated that a number of children in some parts of the district have tested positive to Typhoid.

Typhoid is a common bacterial disease transmitted by the ingestion of food or water contaminated with stool of an infected person.
