Ministry of Health in Eastern Province records less than half the male circumcision target for 2013.

Less than half of the targeted 38, 487 males have so far been circumcised in Eastern Province this year.
This has forced the Ministry of Health to double the target for August from 2000 to 4000 so that they can reach the year target by the end of 2013.
Speaking during a press briefing, Provincial Medical Officer, Dr Kennedy Malama said the provincial target for this year is to circumcise 38, 487 males, yet only 8, 857 have been circumcised so far.
The Medical Doctor stressed the need for campaigns to be intensified if the province is to meet the yearly target as the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate stands at 10.3 per- cent.
And Dr Malama further says that although the country is suffering from a severe shortage of ARVs, the province has not been badly affected by the crisis.
However, Dr Malama says the Ministry of Health will continue to monitor the situation closely.
