The Movement for Multi-Party Democracy MMD says that traditional leaders in Eastern Province should support President Edgar Lungu in the August 11 general elections.
MMD National Chairperson for Agriculture, Chishala Chilufya says that he does not understand why some traditional leaders have refused endorsing Mr. Lungu.
Speaking during a radio programme dubbed Political Hour on Breeze FM this morning, Mr. Chilufya says that it is important for people in the region to speak with one voice.
He alleged that some traditional leaders in Southern Province have grouped to campaign for UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and wondered why traditional leaders in Eastern Province cannot do the same.
Mr. Chilufya charged that easterners should try by all means to avoid being disgraced by losing the presidency twice.
And Mr. Chilufya says that the MMD is only fielding 32 candidates countrywide because it delayed to sort out the leadership wrangle.
He also explained that the MMD decided to back President Lungu in the August 11 general elections because he is the best candidate.
Mr. Chilufya however, stated that parliamentary, mayoral and local government candidates should do the best to sell themselves because the MMD-PF alliance is concentrated on the presidency.
