The Movement for Multi-Party Democracy, MMD, have refuted reports that Ruben Mtolo Phiri’s seat has been nullified for the second time.
Speaking in an interview with Breeze News, Provincial Chairperson, Alexander Miti described media reports that Mr Phiri’s seat was nullified because he was not eligible to stand, as untrue and biased.
He says that Mr Phiri was duly elected by the people of Chipata and that as far as MMD are concerned, Mr Phiri remains the Member of Parliament for Chipata Central.
Mr Miti advised the media to be careful about issuing statements that have not been confirmed.
And Lucas Mbewe, a resident of Chipata, expressed concern about the media report that the Chipata Central seat had been nullified.
He appealed to ECZ, the Electoral Commission of Zambia to clarify the matter.
Last week, reports that the Chipata Central seat had been nullified circulated the media but no official comment has yet been made.
