The endorsements made by MMD Members of Parliament for President Edgar Lungu seem to have sparked confusion in the former ruling party.
Speaking to Breeze News, some MMD councilors in Chipata say the endorsements were made without MPs consulting officials in constituencies.
Dilika Ward Councilor, Alberto Phiri has further condemned a statement which was issued by one of the councilors, Alexander Miti during a political rally held over the weekend in Chipata that all councilors in the district had agreed to support Mr. Lungu.
Mr. Phiri says that councilors in Chipata never met to make such a decision.
He says that while he supports President Lungu for the good work he has done from the time he become president, he does not agree with how the MPs and councilors are handling the endorsement issue.
Mr. Phiri says that he is worried that the endorsements have created confusion as to which party will issue adoption certificates to candidates.
Meanwhile the United Party for National Development UPND has kicked off its adoption process of candidates to contest the August 11 general elections.
UPND Chairperson for Information and Publicity, Charles Kakoma has confirmed in a statement availed to Breeze News.
Mr. Kakoma says that the UPND expects to conclude the whole process by May 8, when successful aspiring candidates for positions of MPs, Mayors, councilors and Council Chairmen will be picked.
