MMD in Eastern Province refuses to back PF in general elections

The Movement for Multi-party Democracy MMD in Eastern Province has refused to back PF, the Patriotic Front Party in the August 11 general elections.
MMD Provincial Spokesperson, Zephaniah Kaleya says that the former ruling party cannot support PF because the governing party cannot be trusted.
Mr. Kaleya alleged that the ruling party has been poaching its members secretly, a situation, which has angered MMD members in the province.
And Mr Kaleya observed that it will be awkward for Eastern Province if President Edgar Lungu loses the August 11 general elections.
He says that this is because former President Rupiah Banda who was also in a same situation like president Lungu failed to win a second term after ruling the country for three years only.
Mr Kaleya says that the PF needs to realise that Southern Province currently has the highest number of registered voters and that a block vote for UPND from that region will make things difficult for PF considering that Eastern province is politically divided.
Patriotic Front Provincial Chairperson, Andrew Lubusha could not be reached for comment.
