MMD risks being wiped out from Zambia’s political system

MMD acting Provincial Chairperson, Jacob Mwanza has warned that the party risks being out of the country’s political scenario if it does not participate in elections.
Speaking to Breeze News, Mr. Mwanza says that the decision by party leader, Dr. Nevers Mumba not to have MMD participate in the Petauke Central, Malambo and Mulobezi parliamentary by-elections does not assist the party at all.
He says that a similar move was taken by UNIP, United National Independence Party, who boycotted elections in 1996 and the party has never recovered.
Mr. Mwanza says that the MMD leadership in Eastern Province is greatly disappointed with the move taken by Dr. Mumba and suspects that there are secret deals between MMD and PF.
He says that Dr. Mumba’s reasoning that MMD should start reorganizing before participating in elections is not convincing because the party should have started reorganizing when Dr. Mumba lost the January 20 presidential election.
And Mr. Mwanza charged that the MMD needs to go for a convention to choose new national party leaders.
