The opposition MMD, Movement for Multi-Party Democracy has expressed concern at delay by government to reinstate the fired nurses.
Provincial Youth Information and Publicity Secretary, Felix Muzwiti Phiri claims that people are struggling to seek medical attention because of shortage of nurses.
Mr. Phiri says that most health facilities in Chipata district are facing a critical shortage of staff and that it is important for government to quickly reinstate the workers.
He says that the fired nurses have learnt a lesson and now deserve to be given back their jobs so that people’s lives can be saved.
Speaking during a live Budget Tracking Programme on Breeze FM on Tuesday, Provincial Medical Officer, Kennedy Malama indicated that his office was still waiting for the public service commission to finalise the process of reinstating the workers.
Dr. Malama further indicated that government last year employed 37 new staff to caution the shortage of staff in health facilities in Eastern Province.
