More than 44,000 people issued with NRCs Cards in Eastern Province.

A total number of 44,775 people have been issued with Green National Registration Cards, NRCs during the on-going national registration exercise in Eastern Province.
This is out of the target of 80, 000 people for the Province.
Home Affairs Minister, Davies Mwila revealed that the number of people getting their NRC’s is overwhelming in Lusaka and Eastern Provinces during a press briefing in Lusaka.
Mr Mwila says the mobile national registration card, NRC, issuance exercise under the second phase is progressing well.
He says that a total of 169,595 people having been issued with the national identity cards nationwide.
Mr. Mwila says Lusaka Province has the highest number of people with a total of 74,306 getting NRCs followed by Eastern Province with 44,775.
Mr Mwila says government is optimistic that the process would reach its target of registering 500,000 people within the 90-day period.
He says his ministry is working closely with the Immigration Department to ensure that foreigners do not take part in the process.
And Mr. Mwila says forensic investigations have been launched to ascertain the circumstances behind a shooting at The Post newspaper newsroom last week.
He says the findings of the on-going investigations would be availed to the public at an appropriate time.
