Most private companies in Eastern Province are lagging behind in the fight against corruption.

Most private companies operating in the province are lagging behind in the fight against corruption.
This came to light during an Integrity workshop spearheaded by the ACC, Anti-Corruption Commission in Chipata.
Officiating at the workshop, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Zachariah Luhanga, expressed the need for all institutions to have the integrity committees as a preventative tool in the fight against corruption.
Mr Luhanga said that inefficient service delivery and unnecessary bureaucratic procedures were among some of the causes of corruption.
He further said that the purpose of the integrity committees was to institutionalize the prevention of corruption and related malpractices in both public and private institutions.
And a representative from the ACC, George Kanguya, said corruption seemed to be more eminent in the public sector.
He said that there is need for the public sector to be more accountable to public funds because officers execute their duties on behalf of the President.
