Movement for Multi-Party Democracy MMD candidate Peter Phiri is new Member of Parliament for Mkaika Constituency.
Mr. Phiri polled 9,054 votes to beat his closest rival David Phiri for PF, Patriotic Front who polled 1, 712 votes.
Trailing was NAREP, National Restoration Party candidate Nigel Mpakateni who polled 161 votes while UNIP candidate Nelseon Mwale only managed to get 136 votes.
Returning Officer, Kapuka Nyirenda declared Mr. Phiri duly elected Member of Parliament for Mkaika at about 24:50 hours.
The Mkaika seat fell vacant after PF candidate, David Phiri who was representing the seat on MMD ticket ditched the former ruling party to join the ruling party.
Meanwhile the Patriotic Front PF Party has scooped the Mangwe local government seat in Chadiza district.
PF Candidate Cephas Tembo bounced back as Mangwe councillor when he polled 366 votes to beat his closest rival Rextez Banda of MMD, Movement for Multi-Party Democracy who polled 339 votes.
United Party for National Development UPND candidate Kumbukirani Phiri got 52 votes while UNIP, United National Independence Party candidate Edson Phiri was at the bottom with only 9 votes.
Returning Officer, Admason Sakala declared Cephas Tembo duly elected councillor for Mangwe Ward at about 22 hours last evening.
The Mangwe seat fell vacant after Cephas Tembo resigned from MMD to join PF.
