Nevers Mumba goes into alliance with HH

The opposition UPND and the Nevers Mumba led MMD faction have gone into a political alliance ahead of the August 11 general elections.

UPND president, Hakainde Hichilema and his MMD counterpart, Nevers Mumba, announced the alliance during a press briefing in Lusaka this morning.

And Dr. Mumba says that he is not supporting UPND to seek political positions.

He explained that he will support UPND president, Hakainde Hichilema as the flag bearer of the two parties during the August 11 elections.

The two leaders also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the terms of the alliance.

Meanwhile the Felix Mutati led Movement for Multi-Party Democracy MMD in Eastern Province has withdrawn its support for PF, Patriotic Front Party at parliamentary and local government level in the August 11 general elections.

Provincial Spokesperson, Zephaniah Kaleya says that this follows the ruling party’s decision to field candidates in all the constituencies.

Speaking to Breeze News, Mr. Kaleya the MMD WILL support President Edgar Lungu but field parliamentary candidates in all the constituencies.

He stated that he has written to MMD headquarters in Lusaka asking that they release adoption certificates for candidates in Eastern Province.

Mr Kaleya stated that it was regrettable that the PF has gone ahead to adopt candidates without referring to the earlier agreement of fielding candidates in constituencies where PF is popular and not contesting in areas where MMD is popular.

But PF Provincial Chairperson, Andrew Lubusha says that PF has already adopted some MMD candidates in some of the constituencies.
