Police in Vubwi district have arrested nine Malawian nationals for illegal possession of Mukula logs.
The nine Malawians who included a female were apprehended on Sunday and were found with 92 logs of Mukula.
Eastern Province Deputy Police Commissioner, Patrick Bili says that the 9 used a Scania truck to transport the logs but were intercepted and are currently in police custody.
And in another development, a 27 year old man of SOS village in Lusaka has been arrested after he was found in possession of 173 logs of Mukula laden in a Volvo truck registration number BAA 1347.
Mr. Bili said Darlington Moyo was apprehended in Nyimba district on Monday night when he was allegedly transporting the logs to Lusaka.
He explained that, Moyo is currently in police custody and has been charged for illegal possession of biological resources contrary to ZEMA, the Zambia Environmental Management act.
Mr. Bili has warned that police has intensified patrols and that anyone who will be found engaging in illegal activities such as trade of Mukula logs will be arrested.
