Offices for government workers reluctant to move to Vubwi district locked in Chipata.

Government workers posted to Vubwi district but still operating in Chipata were this morning treated to a rude shock when their offices were closed by the provincial administration.
The officers from department of health and the council defied a government directive to start operating from the newly created Vubwi district by November 30th.
Eastern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Zacharia Luhanga, who visited the two offices in Little Bombay and Provincial Local Government building this morning, ordered the officers to stop working and vacate the offices, which were immediately locked.
Mr. Luhanga warned the officers to move to Vubwi district within ten days or face disciplinary action.
And acting Vubwi District Health Officer, Joseph Lungu explained that his department has decided to operate from Chipata because of lack of office space in Vubwi.
But the DPS explained that the workers should move and start using the available buildings as offices while waiting for the construction of an office block.
He explained that government has already released about 1.3 million Kwacha for the construction of a common user office block, and 500 thousand Kwacha for the construction of the District Commissioners house and other staff houses.
