Mr. Banda 36, died on the spot after being hit by a Toyota Corolla along the Chipata- Lundazi road.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Alfred Nawa says that Shadreck Banda who riding from Lundazi to Chipata was hit by a Toyota Corolla driven by Enock Banda aged 27 near Mwezi village.
He says that the accident happened when the driver of a Toyota Corolla tried to overtake him and in the process hit him.
Mr. Nawa says that Shadreck’s body is currently lying at Chipata General Hospital Mortuary while the driver of the Corolla is in police custody.
Meanwhile the National Arts Council has expressed shock at the death of Shadreck Banda, a prominent artist in Eastern Province.
Provincial Advisory Committee Chairperson, Samuel Phiri says Mr. Banda, who was popularly known as “Mbao” in one of the radio adverts has left a huge gap in the art fraternity.
Mr. Phiri says that the late Mr. Banda contributed meaningfully to the art industry in Eastern Province.
The late Mr. Banda featured prominently in radio adverts running on Breeze FM.
