One thousand metric tonnes of relief food given to starving villagers in Lundazi district.

Lundazi district has received 1, 000 metric tonnes of relief food to be distributed to starving villagers.

In an interview with Breeze News, Acting District Commissioner, Mukule Banda, says that the hardest hit areas are in the valley.

Mr Banda says that an assessment carried out last year, revealed that there was need for 2,000 by 50 kilogram bags of maize to be distributed as relief food.

He says that government has through DMMU, the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit, sent the relief food with distribution having begun earlier last week.

Mr Banda says that beneficiaries have been identified and COMACO will oversee the distribution of the relief food.

Some of the affected areas include, Chiefs, Mwanya, Kazembe and Chitungulu.
